Why So Serious?

I am purely mazed by the hoo-rah about Obama receiving the Nobel. The Insanity Saturation Level of Known Blogspace is pegging over 50%. Sully and the Wapo want Neda Agha Sultan and/or Mousavi/Karroubi to have the award, ignoring the fact that those old swedes would have had to have a time machine to nominate any of them. Miss Agha Sultan was a university student and Mousavi and Karroubi were vetted candidates on the Iranian election ticket in February when the nomination deadline occurred.
Douthat warns darkly that Obama's historical legacy will be compromised forevah!
My reaction to all this is why-so-serious. For the youth-culture-challenged this means, why are
you stroking out over a non-issue?2. why so serious 66 up, 22 down
The phrase the villain “The Joker” played by Heath Ledger uses in the new Batman movie, “The Dark Knight” when he asks his victims why they are always so serious and not smiling.
The Joker holds a knife up to Rachel Dawes mouth and tells her the story of how he got his scars. He says that one night when his parents were fighting as a young child and he was watching from the corner, his dad asked him “Why so serious?” and used a knife to cut into his cheeks so it looked like he was always smiling.
I think everyone agrees that the old swede posse can give it to anyone they want. It is a subjective decision they are empowered to make according to the terms of Alfred Nobel's will.
during the preceding year [...] shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses.
Why is it a bad thing for Obama n/e ways to get the Nobel? We already had preemptive war....how about a preemptive strike for peace?
It isn't a WTF moment.
It is a FTW moment.....for all of us.
Except for Glenn Beck I guess. ;)

It's not a criticism of the President.
It is a WTF Moment for the Norwegian Nobel Peace Prize Committee.

Lyrics to Zadok The Priest:
Zadok the priest
And Nathan the prophet
Anointed Solomon king
And all the people
Rejoiced, rejoiced, rejoiced
And all the people
Rejoiced, rejoiced, rejoiced
Rejoiced, rejoiced, rejoiced
And all the people
Rejoiced, rejoiced, rejoiced and said:
God save the king
Long live the king
God save the king
May the king live forever
Amen, amen, alleluia, alleluia, amen, amen
Amen, amen, alleluia, amen
God save the king
Long live the king
May the king live forever
Amen, amen, alleluia, alleluia, amen, amen
May the king live
May the king live
Forever, forever, forever
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, amen, amen
Alleluia, alleluia, amen, amen, amen
Amen, amen, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, amen
Long live the king
God save the king
Long live the king
May the king live
May the king live
Forever, forever, forever
Amen, amen, alleluia, alleluia, amen, amen, amen, amen
Amen, amen, alleliua, amen, alleluia,
Amen, amen, alleluia, alleluia

eteraz is playing a hollow, idiotic semantics game. We all know how you have a preemptive war: the enemy is massing troops on the border or otherwise preparing and you go attack him.
How do you have "preemptive peace"?
Through down your weapons and up your arms and say "I want peace!" How is this preemptive? The other guy can still attack. And with the majority of non-western countries your little emotional display won't impress them; it'll convince them you are weak.
Keid is correct: the criticism, for the most part, is against the nominating committee and their diminishing of the credibility of their prize to a house-warming gift or well-wishing token. Critics who include: Anna Marie Cox, Glenn Greenwald, Ezra Klein, Peter Beinart etc. Definitely not "righties".
And from the right, it's been almost Universal to just laugh at the absurdity of nominating Obama after only 11 days in office. But, hey, the righties say, it's their award; if they want to give it for trivial reasons that's their business.
Of course this elicits a response from the DNC that "If you criticize Obama you're with the terrorists."

Sigh,
I know your just engaging in juvenile taunts, but I can't help it. Prepare for a repeat of '94 in '10 (things were much better in '93 than they are now and Clinton was far more competent/ And prepare for Obambi to be a one-termer. Prepare for the rise of the Hispanic GOP. Prepare for a return to prosperity under Palin.
So there!

President Obama has to be one of the best public speakers in America at the moment. No doubt it contributed to his electoral success.
Although I feel his style is studied, he is a huge improvement on W.
Interestingly, non-native English speakers feel it too.

Obama speaks like a professor; Bush speaks like a lot of businessmen I've met. The former has to be pedantic to deal with a broad-range of students; the later tends to be much more informal as you deal with smaller, tighter groups.
But I focus on content; such as the unbelievable factual mistakes Obama has made that would cause Bush to turn red, laugh and correct himself (while the media would go ape shiite for days using it as how "stupid" Bush was). With Obama's mistakes he ignores them and so does the media.
How many states in the Union, obambi?

Interesting article at Reason explains how the decision to award President Obama the Nobel Prize was mired in domestic Norwegian politics.
