Tone Deaf
English alternative rockers Muse told puffy buffoon Glenn Beck they don't want any endorsements from him, and he'd better not try to play their music in association with his 912 Project.
Remind you of anything?
How 'bout that dimbo with the big hair and mall bangs that ran for veep in 2008 and couldn't even play the tunes of the 80's hair band she named her son(Track Van Palin) after? Rejected! Along with Foo Fighters, Heart, Jackson Brown, Survivor and Jon Bon Jovi.
Ouch, bet that left a mark.
Hehe, conservatives can't dance and got no rythm.
The body of youth culture rejects conservatism like a disease.

Well it's not exactly a new observation, that people tend to be radical when they are young and more conservative as they get older.
Also, no doubt the President's younger image and profile also enhanced his appeal to the young. He is one of the more charismatic politicians I have seen in some time. That could also work against him if the magic wears off.
Bear in mind however, that while the civilian unemployment rate just reached 9.8% in September; the youth unemployment rate (16-19) was 25.9% (seasonally adjusted).
In other words the young are being hit maybe twice as hard as the wider population in this recession.
So the danger to Team Obama if they don't get the economy under control soon is profound, in this segment of the population.
Financial Analyst, David P Goldman, writing under the pen-name "Spengler" at AsiaTimes, sums up the economic danger nicely in his latest article, I thought.

I watch Glenn Beck all the time, Muse would get even more popularity being played on the GB show. Such losers they are for denying. Tisk. Tisk.
OT,
Ad Astra Co. who make the VASIMR plasma rocket, have been engaged by NASA to test a 200kW rocket on the ISS.
This could dramatically cut the cost of maintaining the ISS in orbit. Because the far higher specific impulse (exhaust velocity) of an electrical rocket compared to chemical rockets means you wouldn't need so much fuel.
The electrical power could come from the ISS's solar panels.
Electromagnetic thrusters are important for the development of high-speed nuclear propulsion that might eventually open up the entire solar system to rapid manned travel.
VASIMR is one of the most advanced electrical thruster concepts in the world at the moment, because it can vary the specific impulse of the ion beam.
This allows it to trade off higher thrust vs. higher terminal velocity, and so optimise the thruster for different mission profiles.

Beck to childishly claim the album he once praised is “awful and you should never go out and buy it”:
I saw that segment (started watching a bit ago). And, typical Beck, he was being sarcastic. Not missing a beat, he said it knowing the audience had heard his endorsement, and then rolled his eyes and went on. Don't know why the magazine was trying to make him sound hurt and juvenile... Oh, it's a "rockers" magazine, nevermind.
alternative culture and an iPhod won't feed or clothe you.
And Keid, 9.8% for the general pop is an undercount. The real is at 17% due to people falling off the unemployment "rolls" (how we measure UR in the States, FYI). This is in October, 10 months into the Obama Horror show (or is that Obamadepression).
It might be fine if things were going even OK internationally ... Oh, wait, Iran almost has nukes, AlQ is expanding into Somalia, Afghanistan is falling apart and the President doesn't care, etc.
But at least we got the important thing: the olympics. Oh, shit.

Scorpius,
Yes, the Goldman article makes a similar point, about the problems with the measure of unemployment.
I wasn't so concerned about the real measurement, though, so much as the fact that the youth figure is much worse than the civilian average.
And I think that is likely to be true, pretty much however you measure it.
So I think the president can't really take the youth-support for granted in the next election. It will depend heavily on the economy.

I have deleted my last comments, because they were commenting on a painting that I didn't realise was LDS iconography.
I mistook it for political art. LDS is not a religion I am very familiar with, and I didn't recognise the artistic style.
It is not my intent to target any particular religious group.
My disagreements with religion are always general and philosophical in nature.

Oh, come on, Keid, we here in America make constantly make fun of the LDS; Shammy especially. They're the only safe group of former misogynistic polygamous you can safely make fun of (safely in more ways than one)
I think you can only criticise beliefs effectively from the perspective of a higher position.
People have to find their own reasons to believe or disbelieve.

umm no...muse said they would sue wideboy beck's puffy white ass if he played uprising.
The GOP is a purely religious party now.
There is only two ways they can go...die and lie there and rot, or devolve into a residual rump party of noxious fascists like the Christian Democrat Party.
Their platform is wholly dictated by evangelical doctrine which is poison for the demographics they need to court....youth, college educated, minorities.

Christian Democrats aren't noxious fascists. You shouldn't believe everything you hear.
My understanding is that the CD movement originated in catholic countries in an attempt to find a socially enlightened alternative to secular marxism.
In early-Postwar Europe, marxist parties and unions were everywhere in the ascendant, and the Catholic Church wanted to found a progressive political movement that would be based in Christian values.
So it was inspired by the ideal of justice for the working class that was inspired by Christian Love. A community of caring at the political level.
I think it's true that CD parties became compromised with fascism in quite a few places. But it wasn't intended to be like that, and perhaps it didn't have to go that way.
FWIW, we might not have won the Cold War without Christian Democracy. Europe could have gone communist or reverted to full-blown fascism. Several countries steered close to the edge in one or other direction.
IMHO Christian Democracy played a significant part in democratising postwar Europe.

It's no more true to say that Christian Democrat Parties were full of fascists, than it was true to say that Social Democrat Parties were full of communists.
Though there were individuals who were. Some were even secretly, agents of foreign powers.

Anyway there's been so many CD-style parties in Europe and Latin America, that it's just not possible to generalize.
