Klingon Klown Kar Krash
While I agree with some of Arnold Kling's sentiments here...I would just like to point out that this country was CONCIEVED, DESIGNED, and IMPLEMENTED by elites, and that in a meritocracy, we ALWAYS select some stripe of aristoi, either natural like polymath Thomas Jefferson suggested (see Barack Obama) or artificial (see George Bush Presidentsson).
Also, that there are uneducated small town NON-WHITE americans that intelligently run from the GOP like scalded cats, and who were prominently absent from the DC Tea Party.
Does the GOP drive anything but Klown Kars anymore?

I hear your implicit claim that the right is doomed. Although I would interpret that at best as "The old right is doomed".
But let's say you're right.
Let's say Mr Obama wins the next election and then the next Democrat candidate wins his election, etc, etc.
So you are saying that the Dems are going to be winning elections till the Sun goes out, and no-one is ever going to be tired of them, enough to vote for anyone else.
And if you're not saying that...
Who do you think will be the new opposition once the current Right vanishes into the woodwork?
Because, I suspect folks are going to want to have someone to vote for when they want to kick the current bunch out. (At whatever point they decide the then current bunch need a dose of kicking-out)

If the Democrats are now definitely going down the European path and becoming a Social Democrat party. Then the logical thing might be for the Republicans to become a European style Christian Democrat party. i.e. Often Catholic dominated. Pro family, pro traditional values.
So you might consider the Republicans, at some point, coming to terms with their inner Hispanic.
But it means an America coming to terms with its Hispanicisation.
FWIW it makes sense at another level too. In an overwhelmingly China-dominated world, it does make some sense for the US to return to a Western Hemisphere oriented, Munro Doctrine.
If you project the demographic trends to 2050, the bulk of remaining Western Civ will be in the Western Hemisphere.
I project that the Western Hemisphere will outnumber Europe, by about 2:1 in 2050. They're almost equal at the moment. Currently Western Hemisphere is slightly ahead, but with a much younger population.
So you might consider the Republicans, at some point, coming to terms with their inner Hispanic.

That's why I have projected for a while that in the long run, USA will abandon it's North Atlantic focus, and switch back to a Western Hemisphere focus.
I assume China will dominate Asia, Africa, and the Middle East by 2050.
Europe will be very much diminished, by mid-century, by its extreme demographic implosion.
I regard Russia as European Russia, west of the Urals, for all practical purposes. Demographically I lump it with the remainder of Europe.
